Sometimes you encounter situations so horrifically bad that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer level of destruction and just gives up, opting for amusement as a coping defense.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really funny. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a sigh.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of utter perplexity. You start ruminating about the meaning of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just living in a simulation gone wrong?

The tsunami struck with devastating force, destroying entire cities in its wake. Buildings crumbled like fragile toys, and the chaos that erupted was deafening. Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with a check here terrible case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't make it to look decent. As I was hurrying out the door, I fell and dropped my lunch all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for school.

The rest of the day was an absolute nightmare. Everything. I get anything done.
By the time I got home, I was exhausted. This day, this horrific day will be forever remembered as the worst day ever.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
